Repaint sound stucco or repair it first
Stucco painting is a finish project when the underlying wall is sound. Loose areas, repeated cracking or signs of moisture call for assessment before a coating is chosen. A thicker paint description is not a diagnosis or a repair plan.
Tell the painter where problems appear and whether they have returned after earlier work. Ask which repairs they can undertake and which need a different specialist. The stucco crack guide helps separate those responsibilities.
Choose a coating for the existing wall
The existing coating affects what can go over it. Ask the contractor to identify the surface condition and explain the proposed cleaning, primer and topcoat combination.
Sherwin-Williams preparation guidance calls for sound, clean surfaces and suitable preparation. Its application advice also ties methods to products and conditions. A proposal should name the system, not rely on a broad promise that an elastomeric or other thick coating fixes every crack.
Use paint product selection to compare the actual specifications.
Texture, edges and adjoining surfaces
Texture changes how an otherwise consistent color looks. A repair can remain noticeable if its pattern differs from the surrounding wall, especially in side light. Ask how visible patches will be sampled and reviewed.
List window recesses, wall returns, parapets and adjoining trim separately. Decide where the paint stops and who protects glazing, paving and planting. A whole-exterior plan is useful if several materials meet at the same elevation.
Price preparation separately from coating
Ask for a clear split between cleaning and preparation, included patching, primer where needed and finish coating. Identify areas excluded pending further investigation rather than allowing them to disappear into a single repaint price.
For comparison, record: elevation, visible condition, repair allowance, coating system, access and protection. The exterior cost worksheet gives you a common basis for bids.
Send your stucco painting enquiry with the property location and the areas you want refreshed.
